Daring To Hope Again

Today, I want to discuss something close to my heart - hope. You know, that beautiful thing that sometimes slips through our fingers, leaving us feeling lost and unsure. But fear not, because just like the theme of the book I’m currently working on suggests, we can dare to hope again!

Life can be challenging, and we all face our share of ups and downs. There are moments when hope seems like a distant memory, fading away with every passing trial. But let me tell you a little secret: hope is not lost forever. It may be buried deep within, waiting for the right moment to burst forth like a radiant sunrise.

Overall, I’ve had a wonderful life, but I assure you, it’s not been without trouble or disappointment. Sometimes I felt like giving up, like hope was nothing but a fairytale. But you know what I learned? Sometimes, the most courageous thing we can do is to hope again. Believing in a brighter future when the present seems gloomy takes guts.

Throughout the pages of Scripture, we find countless stories of people who dared to hope against all odds. One of my favourites is the story of Job. Good grief!  Talk about a guy who went through the wringer! Yet, even during his trials, he said, "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him" (Job 13:15). Job didn't give up on hope, even when everything seemed to crumble around him.

Another inspiring figure is David. You might have heard of him - the young shepherd boy who took on a giant and one of my favourite characters in the Bible. In Psalm 42:5, he asks his soul, "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God." Not only does this verse comfort my heart by assuring me I’m not the only person who talks to myself.  But David's words remind us that even in our despair, we can hope in the One who holds our future.

Daring to hope again isn't about pretending everything is perfect. No, it's about acknowledging the challenges while choosing to believe that there's more joy in life to come. It's like when spring follows winter, bringing new life after the cold, barren season.

Hope is like a seed planted in the soil of our hearts. It may seem invisible initially, but with time, care, and faith, it grows into something beautiful and strong. And before you know it, hope starts to bloom, bringing colours to even the greyest days.

Now, I won't sugarcoat it - daring to hope again might mean facing some fears. But remember, we're not alone in this journey. The One who holds the stars also holds our hearts, and He invites us to hope in Him. Psalm 31:24 says, "Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord."

So, my dear friends, let's embrace the courage within us and take that leap of hope. It's okay if we stumble along the way or if doubts try to creep in. Like toddlers learning to walk, we might take a few wobbly steps, but we’ll improve with practice.

As we walk life’s road, let's hold on to hope, believing that the best is yet to come. And hey, if you ever feel like hope is slipping away, come back here and reread these words. I'm cheering for you, and more importantly, the Creator of the universe is on your side, rooting for your hope to bloom once more.
