Last night, our beloved terrier, Tess, encountered her first thunderstorm with us. As the thunder roared and lightning flashed, our pup’s tiny frame quivered with fear. The once adventurous and lively terrier now sought comfort and protection in our arms. In her vulnerability, she reminded us of our own moments of fear and anxiety. We, too, face storms that shake us to our core—uncertainty, loss, and overwhelming circumstances. Just as Tess instinctively sought shelter, we can turn to our heavenly Father for refuge.

In the book of Psalms, David declares, "The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower" (Psalm 18:2, KJV). Our heavenly Father is our unchanging refuge in times of trouble. He is the immovable rock, the sturdy fortress that shields us from the storms of life. When we seek Him with open hearts, we find solace, strength, and a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Just as Tess found comfort in our presence, we can find assurance in knowing that we are never alone in the storms of life. In Isaiah 43:2 (KJV), the Lord promises, "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee." Our faithful God walks beside us, guiding us through the turbulent waters, ensuring that we will not be consumed by the floods of adversity. With His loving arms wrapped around us, we can face any storm with unwavering confidence.

When Tess nestled in our arms, her trembling slowly subsided, and a sense of peace enveloped her. Similarly, when we seek shelter in the Lord, His peace washes over us, transcending our circumstances. Philippians 4:7 (KJV) reminds us, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." This peace anchors our souls, assuring us that no matter how fierce the storm rages, we are secure in His loving embrace.

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. - Psalm 56:3
