Book Review: The Merlin Spiral Trilogy
If you love Arthurian legends and a good, clean read, you’ll love The Merlin Spiral Series. This Christian fantasy series is free of swear words, intimate scenes, and any other questionable content. Based on the legends of King Arthur, there is a lot of violence and death, so it may not be suitable for the really young and those who are troubled by war scenes. Also, because of the setting, there is an element of magic from the different enemy factions, so keep that in mind. Unlike most Arthurian stories, Merlin is not a magician, and the only power he possesses is a deep faith in God. When I started the first book in the series, I grew a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of characters and struggled to keep everyone straight. Fortunately, each book has a cast of characters at the end of the book to help with that. Once I was about a third of the way through the first book, I couldn’t put it down, and the second and third book were even more addictive. I loved how the author explored Merlin’s struggle with trusting God when the world around him seemed to be falling apart. All in all, I give this series five stars and highly recommend it to anyone who loves Christian fantasy, Arthurian legends, or just a great read.
