Weary in the Journey

Over the course of the next few days, I'd like to talk to you about being weary in the journey.  The word "weary" can mean many things, including tired, frustrated, discouraged, or overwhelmed.  Can anyone relate?  Have you ever found yourself weary in the journey, so tired you felt you couldn't put one foot in front of the other?  Or maybe you've been discouraged because your journey hasn't been everything you thought it would be.  Maybe it's taking too long or has had too many twists or turns.  Or perhaps you're completely overwhelmed with trying to do so much for so many people with so little return on your investment.

If we're honest, we'll admit that weariness hits all of us at one time or another.  The good news is there's nothing sinful about being weary.  In fact, Jesus himself was weary on more than one occasion.  Weariness is not a sin; however, our response to our weariness might be.  You see, there is a right and a wrong way to deal with discouragement, fatigue and overwhelm, and for the next couple of posts, I want to show you what that looks like.

For now, take comfort in the fact that Jesus knows what you're going through.  He's been there.  He's walked in your shoes.  He can relate, and I don't know why, but it makes us feel so much better just to know that someone truly understands.  Well, my friend, He does understand.  He loves us and cares for us, and He has already given us the tools we need to make it through the journey, no matter how weary we may become.  He has promised to help us through, and God always keeps His promises.

Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not grieved.

— Isaiah 57:10
