He's Got the Whole World in His Hands
Life is made up of valleys and mountaintop experiences. The valleys can be lonely, devastating and wearying while the mountains are exciting and peaceful. Valleys are low while mountains are high. The two are opposite in so many ways, but fortunately, they have something in common. This is especially good news for those who are currently in a valley. So, what is this common ground? I'll let the Bible tell you.
Both the mountains and the valleys are in God's hands. They are under His control. They belong to Him, and He is fully aware of everything taking place within their territories. That means every experience in life (both good and bad) is in God's hands. That promotion you just received. God knew about that. The test results that came back. God knows and cares. The newborn baby. The devastating accident. The ups and the downs. God controls it all. Not a single moment escapes His notice.
For some, this is comforting. It's encouraging to know God sees and understands what we're going through. For others, however, it's almost like a slap in the face. After all, if God sees and understands, why doesn't He do something about it? Why doesn't He heal the body, change the outcome or alter the circumstances? It's easy to deceive ourselves into thinking that God must not care about what happens to us, but my friend, I assure you, it is just that--a deception. It is a lie from the pits of hell, and we must resist it. Not only that, but we need to replace that thought with the truth of God's Word, which tells us repeatedly that God cares for us and we are precious in His sight.
So, if He sees, knows, understands and cares, why the valley? Why would He allow us to suffer so much? The answer to that lies in one of the differences between mountains and valleys. Mountains are magnificent, but it is in the valley that growth occurs. I don't know about you, but I'm always looking for ways to improve myself, whether it be losing weight, working on my memory or trying to grow closer to the Lord. I'm not the person I long to be or even the person I know I can be. But if I really want change to occur, I have to accept the fact that growth often happens in the valley, not on the mountaintop. So, while the time in the valley may be miserable, frustrating and discouraging, I can trust that, with God's grace, I'll come out a better person on the other side.
Yes, there is a positive side to the valley, and reminding ourselves that every circumstance in life is in God's hand is a requirement for a happy and peaceful life. No matter what you're going through today, God's got this. Don't fret, and don't forget. God loves you, and He cares. He'll bring you through this, and you'll be a better version of yourself because of it.
