Finding Direction in the Game of Life
Have you ever heard of the game of bowls? I hadn't heard of it until we moved to the UK, but it's very popular here, and Jason has taken quite a liking to it. Let me explain for those of you who are still in the dark about what bowls is. The game of bowls is a blend of bowling and horseshoes. You roll your balls (called bowls) on a mat towards a smaller ball (called the jack) and try to get as close to it as possible. It's a simple concept, but it can be surprisingly challenging.
Jason has been playing bowls with a local team for about a year now and really enjoys it. Not only does he get to participate in a game he loves, but he also gets to minister to others in the group each week. It's a win-win situation!
One thing he's taught me about bowls is that it's often helpful to have a teammate at the opposite end of the mat to advise you on your best play from their perspective. From where you (the player) stand, your perspective on where things are and how far away they are can be skewed. Your teammate, on the other hand, has a closer look and can see what you can't. They can advise you on the best angle from which to approach the jack or warn you about obstacles in your path that you might not have noticed.
This concept of having a teammate to advise you is not just applicable to the game of bowls but to life as well. Our perspectives in life can often be skewed, just like they can be on the bowling mat. We might think we have a clear view of a situation, but in reality, we're missing important details. That's why it's so essential to depend on God. He sees what we don't and understands what we can't. With His knowledge, He can advise us on the best course of action.
Psalm 32:8 says, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." This verse reminds us that God is our ultimate instructor and guide. He promises to instruct us and teach us the way we should go. Like in the game of bowls, where a teammate can provide crucial insights and guidance, God offers us His wisdom and perspective.
So, the next time you find yourself at a crossroads, lean into God for direction. He sees beyond our immediate circumstances and knows the best path, guiding us with His watchful eye.
