Facing the Impossible
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where the odds were stacked against you? I mean, really stacked against you? I know I have. And let me tell you, it can be downright terrifying. The good news is that nothing is too complicated for God, no matter how dire the situation may seem.
But don’t take my word for it. Listen to the words of King Asa. If you're unfamiliar with his story, let me give you a little background. King Asa was the third king of Judah and a pretty good king, all things considered. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and got rid of all the idols in the land.
But then, one day, an army of a million men came up against him. And I'm not talking about your run-of-the-mill army, either. This was an Ethiopian army, and they were fierce. They had 300 chariots and thousands of horsemen. It was a pretty intimidating sight, to say the least.
I don't know about you, but if I were King Asa, I would have been shaking in my boots. A million men? That's a lot of soldiers! But King Asa didn't let fear get the best of him. Instead, he turned to God.
In 2 Chronicles 14:11, it says, "And Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said, Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee."
Now, that's a prayer, friends! King Asa knew that nothing was too hard for God and trusted that God would help him, no matter the odds. And God did!
The next verse says, "So the Lord smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled." (Is anyone else singing that theme song, “Bad boys, bad boys, what ya gonna do? What ya gonna do when God comes for you?” No, just me. Okay, fair enough.)
On a serious note, God took care of that million-man army like it was nothing. A million soldiers? No big deal! Wow! That gives me hope and reminds me that God can take care of anything that comes our way.
As I sat in my chair, reading about King Asa's victory, I thought about the times in my own life when I faced seemingly impossible situations. Like the time our primary vehicle burned to the ground in our driveway just a few short hours after we had driven it. Or the time we lost our RV (which was also our home) in a snowstorm-related accident in the middle of nowhere. Or this time last year when we found out our life and ministry in Wales were in jeopardy, and it seemed like there was one obstacle after another standing in our way.
But you know what? In each of those situations, God was there. He helped us through them, just like He helped King Asa. And it reminds me that no matter what comes my way, I can trust that God has got me covered.
So, friends, don't let fear get the best of you. Instead, turn to God and trust He can handle any situation you may face. With Him by our side, no trial is too big, and nothing is too hard. He’s got this!
