Up Close and Personal

Are you familiar with macro photography? Macro photography is when the photographer captures an extreme close-up image, allowing the viewer to make out details that would otherwise be missed.  Where regular photography shows a field of flowers, macro photography takes an up-close look at a particular bud, showcasing the veins on the leaves and the dew on the petals.  The details are amazing and often breath-taking.  And to think, many times they're missed because we're not close enough to notice them.

There are many people who claim to know of God or even to know God in the sense that they've accepted Him as Lord of their life.  But when it comes to getting up close and personal, the relationship is lacking.  It's good to know of God, and it's wonderful to accept Him as Lord, but in order to really see what God's like, we have to get closer.  A sweeping view won't cut it.  A distant glance won't reveal the many characteristics of His goodness and love.  No, if we want to truly know Him, we have to get close.  Really close.  As close as we can get.  And the closer we draw to Him, the more of His nature we'll see.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

— James 4:8
